When I started this blog two years ago, my skin was terrible. I suffered from severe cystic acne, I had massive amounts of blackheads and my acne scarring was ridiculous and embarrassing. My skin has come a long way since then but since I’m my own worst critic, I didn’t realize how clear my skin is.
Recently a friend of mine asked me what foundation I was wearing and when I responded and told her that I didn’t have anything on, she was shocked. She asked me how I got my skin to be so clear… I went through my entire routine and then I realized, I’ve never shared with you all how I care for my skin.
Morning Routine
If I’m not running late, I have a really simple three step routine for my skin using products from The Butter Bar:
Step 1: I wash my face with the Black Honey Wash
Step 2: Using a cotton ball, I tone my skin with the Apple , Honey and Green Tea Face Toner
Step 3: I moisturize my skin using the FlawAloe-Papaya Moringa Oil Facial Moisturizer and I add a drop of the Melan-In Skin Nourishing Serum
Note: The Butter Bar does have vegan options for most of their products
Night Routine
My night time routine is just as simple as my morning routine. I repeat step 1 and step 2 from my morning routine, but my night time moisturizer is different
To moisturize my skin before bed, I use the Hemp Oil Facial Moisturizer from Blaq Roses
Extras
If I’m suffering from a breakout I use a Charcoal Purifying Mask from Shea Shea Bakery.
To remove my makeup, I either user Micellar Water or Coconut Oil. When it comes to these, I’m not too picky about the brand.
To exfoliate my skin, I either use the Brown Sugar & Honey Scrub from The Butter Bar or the Lemon Honey Face Scrub from Blaq Roses. Both products have done wonders for my skin.
If I’m rushing in the morning, I’ll use the 4-in-1 Apple Cider Vinegar Foaming Clay Mask because it cleans, scrubs, tones and absorbs oil.
Diet
Following a plant based diet, has helped my skin dramatically. Getting rid of dairy has prevented me from experiencing the breakouts I used to have, and getting rid of processed foods has helped keep my skin clear as well. I also got rid of sugary juices in my diet. Now, I drink water, sparkling water, lots of teas oh and of course wine (but even that is limited).
Note: I’m speaking from my own experience with food, what works for me may not work for everyone else.
Its taken years for me to develop a really good routine that has helped me achieve a clear complexion. There was a lot of trial and error… I got frustrated, but I didn’t give up. Getting rid of acne and keeping it away is pretty hard and it can get frustrating, but don’t give up until you find exactly what works for you!
Until next time…
Yessss!!! This acne is killing me! My face has gone crazy in the last few months! I’ll be checking out these products!!! Thanks for sharing!
