I’ve been MIA for a few weeks, but its only because I’ve been working on something special for you guys!
I wanted to take some time to showcase some of my favorite products from African-American owned companies. These are products I use on a regular basis or have purchased in the past and fell in love with them.
Shea Shea Bakery Body Butter & Scrub
I cannot for the life of me remember how I found out about Shea Shea Bakery, but I do remember why I was so drawn to them. I’m a sucker for cute packaging so their cute dessert themed tops excite me. I absolutely love that their products smell exactly like real desserts. Their body butters quickly became favorites of mine and have become my go to remedy for my dry skin during the winter months.
This scrub is sooooo good. I don’t like chocolate, but this one smells like a fusion of tea with honey and hot cocoa. If you’re looking for a good at home spa treatment, then this Honey Cocoa Milk scrub is perfect. Run a hot bath, light a candle, play some Jill Scott in the background and treat yourself to little scrub down.
The Butter Bar R$ch All Over Wash & Royal Oil
During my journey to live a less toxic lifestyle I struggled to find a body wash that gave me the squeaky clean feeling I got when I used body washes that were filled with sulfates. I used Dr. Bronner’s Castile Oil Soap for years, but after a while it started to severely dry my skin. I already use The Butter Bar’s facial system, so I figured I would try out their R$ch All Over Wash. When I first used it, I was thrown off because it did not produce any suds but it did leave my skin squeaky clean. I started to throw it out, because I thought I had a bad bottle but I learned that it doesn’t produce suds because it doesn’t contain any of the detergents other body washes have. My favorite scent is the Straw-burry and the Warm Vanilla is pretty great too. PS: if you’re vegan, this product is perfect for you.
I love using the Royal Oil after a nice hot shower. The scent is so potent and reminds me of my favorite strawberry candy when I was a kid. Royal Oil improves the elasticity of the skin and improves blood circulation. I absolutely love using it in my hair. During my hair care routine I sometimes add the oil to my twist butter to provide my hair a little extra moisture.
Private Suite Collection
I’m a stickler for good customer service, and after using Private Suite Collection to have party favors made for a bridal shower and experiencing the impeccable customer service the owner provides, I knew I would be using their products for years to come. One of my favorite things about their candles is that they give off a scent in your home for months without lighting them. They are also soy based candles which means they burn cleaner and do not produce any toxins, carcinogens or pollutants. My favorite scents would have to be the Pomegranate Sugar and the Peach Wine. Private Suite Collection doesn’t just sell candles but they also have home decor, body butters, herbal teas and even beard butter for the special man in your life!
Ginger + Liz Nail Lacquer
Back when I thought I wanted to be a wardrobe stylist I used to stalk celebrity stylist Crystal Streets. Everything she had I just had to have too (but only if I could afford it) When she posted about her mani featuring Ginger + Liz Nail Lacquer I just had to have it, and I’ve been using it ever since. It wasn’t until last year that I realized that its owned by two African-American women (one happens to be vegan!) which made me love it even more. Their colors are bold and vibrant and while it’s a little on the pricey side but it’s totally worth it.
Suga On Top Pink Suga Body Glaze
I first found out about the Pink Suga Body Glaze at the Ubiquitous Expo last summer and I’ve been hooked ever since! The scent of this oil this glaze is absolutely amazing, it literally smells like a sweet pomegranate. It’s really thick so a little goes a long way. You can use it for daily moisture or as a fragrance. I like to dab a little of it behind my ears and on my neck.
10 Dates Later
Have you ever had a bad date? Lord knows I have, and so has Lillian Prince… actually she’s had about 10 of them. This book was absolutely hilarious and if you’re in a season where you are feeling like you’re kissing a bunch of frogs and have yet to find your prince then you need to read this book. You will find yourself laughing, shaking your head and you may even shed a tear but only because you are absolutely mortified at the situations Lillian finds herself in. This a perfect Friday night in book, so grab your blanket; put on a cup of tea; and plop on your couch and enjoy. You can purchase 10 Dates Later on Amazon and be sure to leave her a review, oh and please follow her on Instagram for her series “Ask Lillian” where she provides advice on love, relationships, and the dating game.
The Lip Bar Liquid Matte Lipstick
If you ever see me with a red lippie, chances are it’s from The Lip Bar. I first found out about The Lip Bar after watching Shark Tank, the panelist ripped the owner to shreds and referred to her as a “colorful cockroach” or something like that. That was the last night I watched Shark Tank, but that episode sparked my love for The Lip Bar and their products. My absolute favorite shade is Bawse Lady, its a bold red with tones of blue. Its almost like Ruby Woo by MAC but the finish is smoother and doesn’t leave your lips dry.
