I can’t believe its been a whole week since the last time I’ve blogged. Forgive me guys… life got a tad bit cray but I’m BACK!
A few months ago I stumbled upon Shameless Maya (my best friend in my mind) did a video on her diet. One of the things she keeps in her cabinet is coconut milk. She uses it to marinade her chicken when she makes jerk chicken salad. I don’t eat chicken anymore so I use this method when I make jerk shrimp salad (the sauce I use can be found here.
Of course since I’m cooking for one, I only use about 1/4 can of the coconut milk when I cook. In an effort not to be wasteful, I decided to do some research on different ways I can use my left over coconut milk in my health & beauty routine.
Coconut milk has many benefits, here are some of he ways I use it:
Weight Loss Aid
Coconut milk is super high in fiber, so in the mornings I add it to my fruit smoothies along with a bit of almond milk for added protein. Foods that are high in fiber keep you fuller longer and allow your body to rid itself of waste regularly
Hair Conditioner
Coconut oil is high in protein and is an excellent source of moisture for the hair. When I have longer hair, I like to use my left over coconut milk to do a hot deep conditioning treatment on my scalp and hair. I just mix three tablespoons of honey and essential oils into the coconut milk. Usually, I’m not ready to use the concoction when I make it so i pour it into ice cube trays and freeze it for later use. When I am ready, I defrost two or three cubes and massage it into my hair. I then sit under the dryer with a cap on for about 30 minutes.
Bath Soak
In my adult life, Ive become obsessed with baths. I love to make coconut milk bath soaks for a soothing moisturizing bath. There’s no real recipe for this. I just add the coconut oil and organic plain oatmeal to my bath as I please. If you’re taking a bath before bed, add a little lavender oil. Lavender is an excellent way to relax your after a long day and will allow a good nights rest.
Makeup Remover
Now this is a new one for me. I recently discovered using coconut milk as a makeup remover after seeing it on a YouTube video. I like to mix my coconut milk with a bit of coconut oil for a nourishing makeup remover. This leaves my skin feeling extremely soft, and moisturized. Many makeup removers have a lot of harsh and unpronounceable chemicals in them, so I like this method because I know exactly what I’m putting on my skin.
Coconut milk is
I really like the idea of making ice cubes and thawing them to use later. I’m going to try that.
